Darcy & Me

A family portrait of Dr. Xiong, Brandon, and Darcy.
Who i am

Dr. X

Hi, I’m Pong Xiong, an integrative psychiatrist dedicated to bridging the gap between cultures in medicine—a passion shaped by my upbringing in a small rural town in California, where I practiced Shamanism alongside Eastern medicine. A personal loss in my family showed me how cultural misunderstandings in healthcare can leave people feeling unseen, inspiring me to offer compassionate, culturally attuned mental healthcare.

I worked with underserved communities throughout medical school before completing my psychiatry residency in Washington, where I developed an interest in integrative psychiatry and psychodynamic psychopharmacology—approaches that go beyond symptoms to treat the whole person. Life eventually brought me to North Carolina, where my husband (a proud Tar Heels alumni) and I now call home.

Outside of work, I love reading thrillers, watching figure skating, and woodworking—hobbies that keep me grounded and creatively inspired. Whether I’m building furniture or helping a patient heal, I’m drawn to understanding how different pieces come together to make something whole.

our doggo

Mr. Darcy

I named my private practice after my dog, Mr. Darcy, whose loyalty, comfort, and unconditional love have been a constant source of inspiration. He has an incredible ability to sense when I’m overwhelmed, gently reminding me to pause and be present. It’s this same sense of compassion and support that I strive to offer my patients—steadfast, understanding, and there through life’s challenges.

Mr. Darcy, named after the iconic Pride & Prejudice character, has just the right mix of charm and stubbornness. He loves to sleep in, making breakfast a daily challenge—unless beef and cheese are on the menu. His simple joys include squeaky balls, sticking his head out the car window in any weather, and chasing squirrels with determination. Come winter, his Bernese side shines as he rolls and leaps through the snow, completely in his element.
